ABSTRACT
Thoughts have always been considered to be the threshold of our humanity, the very capability to evaluate our reality, yet something extraordinary occurs when they multiply unbearably and couple with excessive everyday worry. This health narrative, entitled ‘What if… I recovered?’ delves into the story of everyday life of Skye, a young individual affected by generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), comorbid with compulsive counting associated with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and the presence of panic attacks and subjective tinnitus. In the narrative, an emphasis is strongly placed on her thoughts whilst the tangible physical symptoms complement them, so as to highlight how the disorder primarily takes a mental toll on the affected, which is oftentimes overlooked and even thus trivialised.
